Craft Brewing
The Pearl District's brewing heritage lives on through Southerleigh Fine Food and Brewery, which operates in the original 1894 brew house cellar where Pearl Beer's lagering tanks once held thousands of barrels of lager during the brewery's operational peak. Southerleigh's head brewer produces a rotating roster of ales, lagers, and seasonal specialties that draw on Gulf Coast flavors and Texas ingredients, including locally grown sorghum, wild Gulf Coast yeast strains, and honey from Hill Country apiaries. The brewery is fully visible from the dining room through glass walls, connecting the dining experience directly to the production process in a way that honors the campus's industrial brewing heritage. Brewery tours are available by appointment and include tastings of both current and experimental batches from the pilot brewing system. Collaborative brews with other Texas craft breweries have become a popular recurring event that draws craft beer enthusiasts from across the state.
Events & Tastings
The Pearl District hosts a rich calendar of culinary and cultural events throughout the year, anchored by the weekly Pearl Farmers Market and supplemented by ticketed events ranging from intimate winemaker dinners to large-scale food festivals. The Culinaria Food and Wine Festival, held annually in May, is one of San Antonio's most anticipated culinary events and features programming across multiple Pearl venues including Southerleigh, Hotel Emma, and the outdoor central lawn. Cooking demonstrations by Culinary Institute of America chefs are offered regularly and open to the public, providing free or low-cost access to professional culinary education. Seasonal events including an Oktoberfest celebration, a holiday market, and a Fiesta-week programming block align the Pearl's calendar with San Antonio's broader cultural event schedule. Private tasting events for wine, spirits, and craft beer can be organized through the Pearl's event coordination team for groups of 10 to 200 guests.
Taproom Experience
Southerleigh Fine Food and Brewery's taproom in the Pearl's historic brew house cellar delivers one of the most atmospherically distinctive dining and drinking experiences in San Antonio, with original limestone walls, exposed brick arches, and vintage brewing equipment serving as the backdrop for an ever-changing tap list and a Gulf Coast-inspired menu. The outdoor terrace overlooking the San Antonio River is a beloved setting for afternoon pints and weekend brunch, particularly during the cooler fall and spring months when San Antonio weather is at its most pleasant. Bartenders are trained in both brewing science and the Pearl Brewery's history, making every bar visit an opportunity to learn about the campus's past. The taproom's community tables encourage conversation between locals and visitors in the spirit of the communal gathering places that historic brewery taprooms originally served. Happy hour specials during weekday afternoons draw the Pearl District's resident and office worker population for post-work socializing.
Distribution
Southerleigh Fine Food and Brewery distributes a selection of its flagship craft beers through licensed Texas distributors, making Pearl District-brewed craft beers available at select restaurants and specialty beer retailers across San Antonio and Austin. The brewery's canned and bottled products are available for purchase directly at the Pearl District taproom as well as through the Pearl's online shop for local delivery and in-person pickup. Wholesale accounts at Pearl District restaurants ensure that guests can enjoy Southerleigh beers paired with meals at multiple venues on the campus. The brewery participates in Texas craft beer festivals in Houston, Austin, and Dallas that extend brand awareness beyond San Antonio to visitors who may later seek out Southerleigh products when visiting the Pearl. Seasonal limited releases are available exclusively at the Pearl taproom and typically sell out within the first weekend of release.
Private Events
The Pearl District offers a curated portfolio of private event venues that combine historic architecture, world-class catering, and a walkable campus environment ideal for multi-venue events. Hotel Emma's Grand Hall, the brew house courtyard, and Southerleigh's private dining room can be coordinated for weddings, corporate retreats, and celebratory dinners that flow seamlessly between spaces. The Pearl's outdoor lawn accommodates large tented events of up to several hundred guests with access to the campus's restaurants for catering and bar service. An in-house event planning team coordinates logistics across venue partners, ensuring a consistent guest experience regardless of which combination of spaces a client selects. Preferred vendor relationships with local florists, photographers, and entertainment companies streamline the planning process for clients organizing events on a defined timeline.
Online Shop
The Pearl District online shop offers a curated selection of merchandise, local specialty foods, and experience vouchers that bring the Pearl's culinary and cultural identity to customers beyond the physical campus. Experience vouchers cover cooking classes at the Culinary Institute of America's San Antonio campus, tasting flights at Southerleigh, and guided history tours of the Pearl campus's historic buildings. Holiday gift sets themed around Texas food culture and Pearl history are assembled each November and typically sell out before the Christmas shipping deadline.
